Conversations that happen only at church

Today at church I was just sitting reading the bulletin and a little boy came up to me to ask a question. He was very serious and I knew it was important for him to know something. He asked me if I knew that a female dog and a male dog needed to "mate" before they have puppies. I stated that I did know this - and his question was "what does mate mean?"

After a few seconds to take all of this in, I replied to him that he really needed to ask his mother about this and he dejectedly said, " I have and she won't tell me." - Mike

Mike... This is so funny. I am the one responsible for that question you got asked this morning. The said little boy comes to our house before Awana on Wednesdays. He loves our dog Lily, and asks every Sunday about her. We have been trying to locate a male to breed her to as she is in heat NOW. He thought that somehow Lily would have puppies by just finding a male dog somewhere and meeting him, and saying "hi dog, I love you and want to get married". I said, "well", said boy, "the dogs need to mate before she can get pregnant". So, then of course, he wondered what "mate" meant, and I told him to go ask his mom. Obviously she wasn't willing to explain it either..
